Over the last month there was a 16% dip in the average national potato price mostly due to 29% higher volumes over this period. The latest price decreased to R71.82 per 10kg bag with a 24% jump in volumes reported the past week. January was also a very slow month on the market due to very low demand reported. The average large potato price traded on R79 while small/mediums came in at R60 per 10kg bag.

 

The latest tomato price increased by 19% week on week to R9.72 per kilogram which was mostly driven by higher demand since the volumes traded also increased. High volumes coupled with low demand may result in lower prices this week.

 

Carrot prices increased to R5.25 per kilogram, while the average class 1 large price traded higher on R5.37 per kg.

The average national onion price traded 1% lower the past week on R39.05 per 10kg bag and remained about 42% lower than a year ago. The average brown onion price decreased to R39, white onions increased to R42 while red onions decreased to R86 per 10 kg bag.

The average pepper price increased to R11.46 per kilogram while green pepper prices decreased to R6.89, yellow peppers increased to R19.11 and Red peppers on R25.27 per kilogram.

 

Looking at other market prices, Cabbage prices increased to R2.45 while garlic prices rose to R57.16. Spinach prices increased by 18% to R5.03 while the latest sweet potato prices decreased by 44% to R5.76 last week. The Pumpkin also remained in a downward trend with the latest price 11% lower on R2.90 per kilogram.
