In the fruit markets, the banana price, which is in a downward trend at the moment, decreased to R6.15 the past week. The large hand variety price on Nile.ag moved sideways, trading on R150 per 10kg box. We are expecting this price to stay on a lower level from June to September of this year.
Apple prices decreased to R8.05 and we are expecting this price to stay on a low level during June. Although the average pear price increased to R8.19 per kilogram, we are expecting this price to decrease slightly during June, but continue to increase as the rest of the year unfolds.
Orange prices stayed low last week, trading on R3.40 per kilogram. This price is likely to bottom out in June as volumes are likely to increase significantly. However, expect prices to recover in July. Although avo prices decreased to R13.97 per kilogram it is likely to remain in a slight upward trend for now. The Table grape price increased by 56% to R106.93, which is 257% higher than last year this time. Expect Table grape prices to stay on a higher level until October of this year as we are more reliant now on imports, which is more expensive due to the weaker exchange rate. The pineapple price decreased to R7.97 per kilogram and is now about 30% higher than a year ago.
