In the fruit markets we are also seeing prices remaining well above last years levels due to production constraints but also due to the weaker Rand which is still forcing export prices higher. The banana price, which is in a downward trend at the moment, decreased to R6.96 the past week. The large hand variety price on Nile.ag also decreased, trading on R150 per 10kg box. We are expecting this price to stay on a lower level from June to September of this year.

Apple prices increased to R8.25 while the average pear price increased to R7.85 per kilogram which is 23 and 18% higher respectively compared to last year.

Orange prices decreased by 5% last week to R3.82 per kilogram and is likely to stay on a lower level during June when we usually see volumes at its highest. Avo prices increased to R14.33 per kilogram and can remain in a slight upward trend for now. The Table grape season ended earlier than usual, resulting in prices to trade on R68.09, which is 233% higher than last year this time. Expect Table grape prices to peak in July. The pineapple price decreased to R8.02 per kilogram and is now about 18% higher than a year ago.
